Over 600 Paxil users in the UK have filed a lawsuit against manufacturer GlaxoSmithKline in association with withdrawal symptoms of the drug. Paxil or Seroxat, as it is known in the UK, has been linked to birth defects, suicide, and violence. The plaintiffs in this case claim that GSK issued no warning about possible withdrawal problems and that Seroxat is a defective drug under British protection laws. Plaintiffs seek around $60 million is damages.

Paxil withdrawals have been a hot topic over the past few years and patients claim that it can be severely debilitating. In order to quit Paxil many users are forces to wean themselves very slowly to avoid intense withdrawal symptoms and thousands have not been able to stop even using this tapering method. Paxil withdrawal even has its own terms created by sufferers. "Zaps" is a term that refers to what Paxil users say feels like electricity "zapping" their head. Theses are often accompanied by a sound many describe as a "zzzp." Some users trying to quit claim to experience these "zaps" dozens of times in a single day.

Thousands of online message boards are filled with people telling their Paxil withdrawal stories, most are more like nightmares. Anyone trying to quit Paxil should be very cautious of the possible withdrawal symptoms and seek professional advice before attempting to quit.
