Convicted bank robber Leonard Parker was found guilty of 10 counts in association with two bank robberies that he committed in 2006. Parker's sentencing has been delayed, as he would not cooperate with his court appointed attorney. Parker has never claimed that he did not commit the crimes, but that he was insane at the time of the crimes due to the intense withdrawals he was experiencing after he stopped taking the prescription antidepressant Paxil.
This doesn't really seem that far fetched considering some of the horror stories I have read about Paxil withdrawals. Many people claim that the withdrawals are so intense that they can barley even function and people claim have everything from headaches and nausea to out-of-body experiences. It appears that the jury had little doubt about Parker's motives though, as it only took 15 minutes to find Parker guilty on all 10 counts against him.
Parker plans to appeal his conviction and claims that his attorney has not been helpful and has not explored the correct avenues to adequately defend him. The judge in the trial said that if Parker no longer wants his attorney to represent him the court will decide whether to appoint another attorney or to allow Parker to represent himself (as he originally requested) for the remainder of this trial.
Parker has had several lawyers since his arrest January 2006. He has asked for dismissal of his attorneys. He began his trial representing himself but Trilling was appointed to help him with his case before it ended. Parker has had at least four different lawyers to represent him since his arrest.
