Generic Paxil CR Gets Tenative Approval

On Thursday, Mylan said the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) tentatively approved a generic version of GlaxoSmithKline's drug Paxil CR.

Mylan reports, the drug known by its generic name "paroxetine extended release tablets" is eligible for final approval on June 29th, when Paxil CR's pediatric exclusivity is set for expiration.

Paxil CR, a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) is used for treating depression, panic disorders, social anxiety and premenstrual dysphoric disorder.

Side effects associated with Paxil use include - suicidal thoughts, diarrhea, constipation, nausea, decreased appetite, abnormal vision and sleepiness.
